Honor introduces its first Robot Phone in China, featuring a groundbreaking motorised rear camera system with pan, tilt, and stabilisation capabilities, targeting creator-focused users with advanced filming features.
Honor has begun selling its Robot Phone in China, adding one of the most unusual camera systems yet seen in a smartphone. The device went on first sale on 18 August and is offered in Star Trail Silver and Moon Shadow Grey, with a compact body measuring 9.59mm thick and weighing 248g, according to Huawei Central.
The headline feature is a motorised rear camera module that can pan, tilt and move in response to shooting needs. Android Central reported that the handset uses a three-axis Agile Gimbal system, paired with Honor’s H1 image chip and ARRI imaging science, including LogC3 and ARRI Wide Gamut 3 support for more film-like capture and grading. The arrangement is intended to give the phone a degree of physical tracking and stabilisation that conventional camera software cannot match.
Honor is positioning the device as a creator-focused premium model rather than a mainstream flagship. The phone uses a 6.3-inch LTPO display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 7,060mAh battery with 120W wired charging, while the camera system combines a 200MP main sensor, a 200MP telephoto lens and a 50MP ultrawide unit, according to Android Central and Tom’s Guide. TechRadar said the concept is striking in person, but noted that the appeal is likely to remain niche because the design is aimed at users who value experimentation and mobile video production over mass-market practicality.
Pricing places the Robot Phone firmly in premium territory. Huawei Central said the 12GB/512GB version costs 9,999 yuan, while the 16GB/1TB model is priced at 12,999 yuan. Tom’s Guide reported that the device is launching in China first, with wider availability still unclear, leaving Honor’s boldest phone to be judged initially by a domestic audience before any possible international rollout.
