Honor’s robot phone innovation features motorised camera for immersive content creation

Honor has introduced a pioneering Robot Phone equipped with a motorised, gesture-controlled camera module, aiming to elevate mobile videography and live streaming through advanced robotics, AI, and a collaboration with cinema camera experts Arri.

Honor has unveiled a Robot Phone built around a motorised camera module that can move, tilt and nod, as the Chinese handset maker tries to stand out in a weaker global smartphone market. The device uses a three-axis mechanical gimbal with four degrees of motion, which Honor says is activated by a hand gesture and designed to support both stabilised video and more interactive use.

The company says the camera assembly unfolds from the back of the phone and required 60 manufacturing processes and 100 precision components. That mechanism is intended to do more than stabilise footage. According to Honor, the handset also uses embodied artificial intelligence to keep users framed automatically during calls or livestreams as they move, rather than relying only on software-based tracking.

Honor is also leaning on outside expertise to improve image quality. The company has announced a technical collaboration with German cinema camera specialist Arri, aiming to bring professional imaging science into consumer mobile devices. That partnership is part of a broader push to position the Robot Phone as a tool for creators as much as for ordinary smartphone buyers.

The timing suggests a commercial test as much as a product launch. Gadgets 360 reported that the Robot Phone was first shown at Mobile World Congress in 2026 and is expected to arrive in the second half of this year. Other reports have described it as a prototype with a 200-megapixel AI-tracking camera and, in some configurations, a larger multi-camera system, underscoring how Honor is trying to fuse robotics, AI and mobile imaging into a single device.
