HP re-enters India’s tablet scene with the OmniPad 12, a device blending productivity features and eco-friendly design, targeting students, professionals, and small businesses amid a shift towards versatile device options.
HP has returned to India’s tablet market with the OmniPad 12, a device pitched at students, professionals and small businesses looking for something that sits between a conventional tablet and a laptop. Indian Express said the launch marks HP’s re-entry into a category it left in 2011, while the company is also tying the product to a wider push into productivity-focused devices.
The OmniPad 12 centres on a 12-inch 2K multi-touch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 90Hz refresh rate and brightness of up to 400 nits. HP says the screen covers the full sRGB color gamut, making it suitable for video streaming, online classes and document-heavy work. The tablet also ships with a detachable keyboard, allowing it to be used in a more laptop-like configuration when needed.
Under the bonnet is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, paired with an Adreno GPU, 8GB of LPDDR5 memory and 128GB or 256GB of UFS storage. Storage can be expanded by up to 1TB with a microSD card. Gadgets 360 and India Today both reported that the tablet is positioned squarely at mid-range users, with enough headroom for everyday productivity, calls and browsing, but not for demanding gaming or intensive creative workloads. HP claims battery life can stretch to 18 hours.
For video calls and classes, the tablet includes a quad-speaker setup with DTS:X Ultra support, a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera and dual high signal-to-noise microphones. It runs Android 16 and comes with education and skills apps such as iPrep, Lexillion and Brands.live preloaded. HP has also highlighted recycled aluminium in the tablet and post-consumer recycled materials in the keyboard, alongside EPEAT Silver registration and ENERGY STAR certification. The OmniPad 12 is priced at ₹48,999 for the 128GB model and ₹54,999 for the 256GB version, with availability through HP’s online store and major Indian retailers.
