HP’s 1.16kg OLED laptop promises 42.5 hours of battery life

HP has launched the Star Book Air 14 in China with a 14-inch OLED touchscreen, Intel Core 5 processor and a claimed 42.5-hour video playback runtime, while the same hardware is sold internationally as the OmniBook 5 14.

HP has formally expanded its thin-and-light laptop line-up in China with the Star Book Air 14, a 14-inch model built around an OLED touch panel and Intel’s Core 5 320 processor. The machine weighs 1.16kg and is 11.77mm thick, placing it firmly in the ultraportable category, while its hinge opens to 180 degrees for flatter viewing and collaboration. According to Chinese coverage of the launch, reservations are open at CNY 5,299.

The specification sheet is aimed at users who want a compact device without sacrificing a premium display. The 14-inch OLED screen has a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and supports 10-point touch input, giving it a more versatile role than a conventional clamshell notebook. HP pairs that panel with 16GB of memory and a 512GB solid-state drive, which should be enough for mainstream productivity, media work and light creative tasks.

Battery life is one of the main selling points. HP says the Star Book Air 14 can last for up to 42.5 hours in local video playback tests, although real-world endurance will depend heavily on brightness, workload and wireless use. The notebook also includes two USB-C ports, HDMI 2.1, an FHD infrared camera and DTS Ultra Audio, suggesting that HP has tried to keep the chassis slim without stripping out common connectivity and conferencing features.

The Chinese launch also matters because HP appears to be positioning the same hardware for broader markets under a different name. Reports from Gizmochina, TechNetBooks and Tom’s Hardware say the device is sold internationally as the HP OmniBook 5 14, with a starting price of $699.99. That places it in a competitive segment where OLED displays, strong battery claims and restrained pricing are increasingly central to the pitch.
