Leaked specifications suggest Huawei’s upcoming Nova 16 SE model will feature an ultra-bright OLED display, massive battery capacity, and mid-range performance, signalling a focus on endurance and connectivity.
Huawei is reportedly preparing a nova 16 SE variant that could sit below the company’s better-known nova 16 models, with published specifications pointing to a large-screen handset built around battery life, connectivity and a high-refresh OLED panel. The leak describes an IP65-rated body, a 6.84-inch display, HarmonyOS 6.1 and Huawei’s Kirin 8020 processor, placing the device in the upper mid-range rather than the flagship tier.
The most striking claim is the screen brightness figure, said to reach 8,000 nits, alongside a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1,272 x 2,756 pixels. If accurate, that would make the panel unusually bright on paper, though such peak figures are often measured in narrow lab conditions rather than typical everyday use. The alleged dimensions of 163.3 mm by 78 mm by 8 mm and a weight of 229g suggest a fairly large and heavy phone, especially when compared with the slimmer nova 16 model listed by Huawei itself, which is smaller and lighter.
Camera details also vary across the material now circulating. The lead specification sheet says the SE would carry a 50-megapixel main camera with 4K video recording at 30 frames per second and a 32-megapixel front camera. By contrast, a separate retail listing describes a different front camera and a secondary rear sensor, while Huawei’s own nova 16 product page shows the standard model with a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto unit and a 50-megapixel selfie camera. That suggests the nova 16 family may be broader than the SE label alone implies, or that some of the listed details are still provisional.
Battery capacity is another area where the reports diverge sharply. The new SE listing points to an 8,500mAh battery with 66W wired charging and 5W reverse charging, a combination that would prioritise endurance over charging speed. Huawei’s official nova 16 specification page, meanwhile, lists a 7,000mAh battery with 100W wired charging. The overlap in software, chipset naming and display class indicates that the nova 16 series is being positioned around a common design language, but the exact place of the SE model within that range remains unclear until Huawei confirms the device itself.
