Huawei unveils the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, offering an upgraded foldable laptop with a powerful Kirin X90 Plus processor, enhanced durability, and a seamless 18-inch desktop-style display, marking a significant step in portable productivity devices.
Huawei has refreshed its foldable laptop line with a second-generation MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, adding a new Kirin X90 Plus processor, HarmonyOS 6.1 and broader AI functions while keeping the same basic folding concept. The device opens into an 18-inch desktop-style screen and collapses into a 13-inch clamshell form, aiming to bridge portability and larger-screen productivity in a single machine.
The updated model preserves the lightweight design of the original, at about 1.16 kg, while Huawei says it has strengthened the hinge and internal structure for better durability. The company also says the new mechanism is far more resistant to bending than before. Huawei Central reported that the chip upgrade is intended to improve overall performance by around 25%, although that figure comes from the company’s own presentation.
Display specifications remain central to the product’s appeal. Huawei says the dual-layer LTPO OLED panel offers 3.3K resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness. Previous reporting on the first MateBook Fold noted the same 18-inch screen size, 4:3 aspect ratio and tandem OLED design, underlining that this new version is primarily a refinement rather than a wholesale redesign.
The MateBook Fold also reflects Huawei’s wider push to build a HarmonyOS-based PC ecosystem. The original model was among the first Huawei computers to ship with HarmonyOS for PC, and it launched in China at roughly $3,300. The 2026 edition continues that strategy, with pricing starting at 24,999 yuan in China, as Huawei deepens its effort to combine proprietary hardware, software and AI tools across its devices.
