Insta360 is preparing to unveil the X6 on August 12, bringing fresh momentum to the fast-moving 360-degree camera market after weeks of leaks and a teaser video from the company itself. According to the latest details, the camera will keep the brand’s dual-lens format but add larger custom Sony sensors, a dedicated AI chip system and 8K 360-degree video recording. The early picture suggests a model aimed at creators who want stronger low-light performance and more flexibility without moving up to bulkier pro gear.
Leaked specifications point to a major step up in image capture. Reports indicate the X6 will use dual 1/1.1-inch sensors rated at 42 megapixels each, enabling 360-degree stills up to 120 megapixels. The camera is also said to support 8K video at up to 50 frames per second, alongside 10-bit colour, Dolby Vision and I-Log profiles. Insta360’s teaser has also shown night footage, reinforcing talk of an updated Adaptive Tone 2.0 system designed to handle mixed lighting more effectively.
The body appears to have been redesigned as well, with hands-on images suggesting a shorter, wider profile than the X5. Leaks place the dimensions at roughly 10 cm long, 5 cm wide and less than 4 cm thick, with a weight of about 195 g. The display is reportedly brighter too, while packaging images indicate Replaceable Lenses 2.0, building on the swappable lens system introduced with the X5. A 2,600 mAh battery branded the “Extra Xtreme” is also said to be on board, with claims of up to 140 minutes of 8K30 recording.
Pricing remains unconfirmed, but the rumour mill has settled around a standard bundle somewhere between $670 and $795, with an Essentials package that adds an invisible selfie stick and protective accessories listed at about $899. Some earlier reports suggested a later release window in late August or September, but that has been overtaken by Insta360’s own announcement of an August 12 launch and same-day pre-orders. For now, the X6 looks set to arrive as a more ambitious follow-up to the X5, with the biggest gains centred on resolution, low-light capture and overall usability.
