Lenovo's new ThinkBook leaks suggest a radical ultra-slim design set to challenge the thin laptop benchmark

Leaked images hint at a groundbreaking thin profile for Lenovo’s upcoming ThinkBook, potentially introducing a new standard in portable business laptops amid rising competition from Qualcomm and Intel platforms.

Lenovo appears close to unveiling an unusually slim ThinkBook laptop, with leaked press images suggesting a chassis so thin that the USB-C ports need a raised section to fit. The side view also shows a separate microphone opening between the two ports, while the keyboard appears flatter than on many current ThinkBook and ThinkPad models, a sign that the company may be pushing industrial design further than it has before. Thin Windows laptops are not new, but Acer’s Swift 7 set a notable benchmark in this category when it arrived at under 10 mm in one version, according to WIRED and TechSpot.

The machine is reportedly called Aeroblade, although the body is still clearly marked ThinkBook. That places it within Lenovo’s business-focused line, which currently includes the ThinkBook 14 Gen 4, a model Lenovo describes as 17.9 mm thick and aimed at small-business users. The contrast suggests Lenovo may be preparing a far more radical design than its present commercial laptops, which still prioritise a balance of portability, security features and conventional typing comfort.

If the leak is accurate, the bigger question is whether Lenovo is trying to reclaim the thinness race at a time when hardware has finally caught up with the ambition. Modern low-power platforms from Qualcomm and Intel are making it easier to build slimmer PCs without the same compromises on battery life and performance that once limited such designs. The report also points to a possible debut at IFA in Berlin from 4 September, which would fit Lenovo’s recent habit of using the show for concept and premium hardware announcements.
