MG Motor India prepares to unveil a new seven-seat electric SUV with long-range capabilities

MG Motor India is close to launching the Hector Tomahawk EV, a larger, three-row electric SUV using the new ADAPT platform, with a planned debut potentially on 26 August. The model aims to compete in India’s growing electric SUV market with a projected range of 530km.

MG Motor India appears close to widening its Indian electric line-up with a larger, three-row SUV that has been seen in production trim during filming in Pune. The camouflage-free sighting suggests the model, widely referred to as the Hector Tomahawk EV, is nearing launch, and reports from automotive outlets indicate that 26 August has been discussed as a possible debut date.

The most significant development is the car’s expected use of MG’s new ADAPT architecture, short for Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology. According to the company’s own recent product strategy in India, MG has already used the Hector nameplate for a mainstream family SUV, while its EV push has centred on the ZS EV and the Comet. ADAPT is intended to support multiple propulsion types, including battery-electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and range-extender systems, which would give MG more flexibility across future models.

For the Hector Tomahawk EV itself, the expectation is a full-electric seven-seater positioned above the current Hector. Industry reports point to a front-mounted motor, a 69.2kWh LFP battery and outputs of about 204 PS and 310 Nm, with a claimed range of roughly 530km on the CLTC cycle. That would place it among the more ambitious electric SUVs in the segment if those figures are carried over to the Indian version.

The design seen in Pune suggests a conventional SUV shape rather than a heavily stylised EV form. Images show split lighting at the front, with slim daytime running lights above and the main headlamps set lower, a largely closed-off upper grille, and a broader lower air intake. Dual-tone exterior treatment and a dark roof were also visible. The overall look appears restrained, which may suit a model aimed at families rather than early adopters seeking a more radical design.

Pricing remains unconfirmed, but reports suggest a likely range of about Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. That would position the SUV close to upcoming rivals in India’s growing electric-SUV market. MG’s current local line-up shows the company is already comfortable spanning a wide price band, from the Comet EV at the entry end to the Gloster at the premium end, while the Hector itself remains one of its better-known nameplates. A competitive price on the new model would therefore be crucial, especially if MG wants the Tomahawk EV to stand out through its seven-seat packaging and long-range promise rather than badge recognition alone. The use of the Hector name, together with the Tomahawk reference in MG’s teaser activity, suggests the company is trying to connect the new SUV to an existing market identity while still pitching it as a more premium, forward-looking product.
