Microsoft brings Snapdragon X2 Plus to more affordable Surface Pro and Laptop models

Microsoft has opened Chinese pre-orders for refreshed Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models, pairing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus with longer battery life, lighter designs and new AI-focused software.

Microsoft has opened pre-orders in China for refreshed versions of its Surface Pro 12-inch 2nd Edition and Surface Laptop 13-inch 2nd Edition, both built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus six-core processor. The launch extends the company’s latest Copilot+-class hardware push into its more affordable Surface line, where the focus is on longer battery life, lighter chassis designs and tighter AI integration rather than raw notebook performance alone.

According to Microsoft’s own store listings and technical documentation, the Surface Pro 12-inch 2nd Edition uses a 12-inch PixelSense LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 2,196 by 1,464, a 500-nit peak brightness level and support for 16GB or 24GB of LPDDR5x memory. Storage options run from 256GB to 1TB, while Microsoft quotes up to 15.5 hours of local video playback and up to 13 hours of active web use for Wi-Fi models. The company lists two USB-C ports, a 1080p front camera and a 10-megapixel rear camera.

IT之家 reports that the Chinese prices for the tablet start at 9,188 yuan for the 16GB+256GB configuration on Microsoft’s official store. A 16GB+512GB model is listed at 9,988 yuan through Microsoft and at 8,488 yuan on third-party channels, while a bundle with the keyboard cover is priced at 9,488 yuan on third-party platforms. A version with keyboard cover and stylus costs 10,288 yuan on third-party platforms, and the top-end 24GB+512GB model is listed at 11,588 yuan on Microsoft’s store. The device weighs 686g and carries a 38Wh battery.

The Surface Laptop 13-inch 2nd Edition follows the same processor and memory strategy, but pairs it with a 13-inch 1,920 by 1,280 display running at 60Hz, a 50Wh battery and a 1.22kg chassis. IT之家 says the Chinese pricing begins at 9,788 yuan for the 16GB+256GB version sold through third-party retailers, with the 16GB+512GB model priced at 10,588 yuan on Microsoft’s official store and on third-party platforms, and the 24GB+512GB version set at 12,188 yuan on Microsoft’s store. Tom’s Hardware reported that the pair was introduced on 13 October and that Microsoft is also positioning them as lower-cost entry points into its newer Surface range.

The hardware refresh comes alongside Microsoft’s Ink Canvas software, which Windows Central said is pre-installed on the new Surface Pro and will also be available through the Microsoft Store. The app is designed as a pen-first workspace that combines handwriting, sketches and annotations with AI-assisted drafting. Qualcomm, meanwhile, has positioned the Snapdragon X2 Plus as a significant step up from the earlier generation, with industry coverage citing improvements in CPU performance, battery efficiency and graphics, as well as a Hexagon NPU rated at up to 80 TOPS. For Microsoft, the combination suggests a clear attempt to make its entry-level Surface machines more credible as everyday productivity devices without moving them into premium pricing territory.
