Motorola revives premium Moto Watch with LTE support and Wear OS 6

Motorola launches the Moto Watch Ultra, a premium 46mm smartwatch with LTE, Google apps, and Polar health software, marking the company’s return to Wear OS and aiming to compete in the high-end smartwatch market.

Motorola has put the Moto Watch Ultra on sale from 10 September at $349.99, with sales initially through Motorola’s own website and wider carrier availability to follow. Verizon is due to add the watch on 24 September, while T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, AT&T, Xfinity Mobile and Consumer Cellular are expected to carry it later. The launch marks Motorola’s return to Wear OS and gives the company its first Moto Watch with LTE eSIM support.

The Watch Ultra is pitched as a premium model in a 46mm stainless-steel case, and Motorola is shipping it with both silicone and leather straps. The device uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chip, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and it runs Wear OS 6. Motorola says the software brings Google Play, Wallet, Maps, Messages, YouTube Music and Gemini to the watch, although full access to the company’s Qira assistant requires a compatible Motorola phone and a Moto ID.

Its display is a 1.5-inch pOLED panel with a 466 x 466 resolution and peak brightness rated at up to 2,700 nits. The watch also includes dual-band GPS, IP68 protection, 5ATM water resistance and standard 22mm band support. LTE connectivity is designed to let users make calls, send messages and receive notifications without a nearby phone, subject to carrier plan requirements.

Motorola is also taking a different approach to health software by using Polar’s platform rather than Fitbit or Samsung Health. The watch offers Nightly Recharge for sleep and recovery, Sleep Plus Stages for sleep analysis, Serene guided breathing and an on-wrist running coach. Motorola rates the 550mAh battery at up to two days with the always-on display switched off, and says a 15-minute charge can deliver up to 24 hours of use. That is a shorter endurance claim than the standard Moto Watch released earlier this year, but the Ultra’s added LTE and Google app support may matter more to buyers looking for a fuller Wear OS package.
