Motorola has launched the Moto Watch Ultra, a more advanced smartwatch featuring built-in cellular connectivity and enhanced health features, signalling a move towards fully independent wearable devices at IFA 2026.
Motorola has unveiled the Moto Watch Ultra, a more capable version of its smartwatch line that combines Wear OS with built-in cellular connectivity. The move means the watch can handle calls, messages and music streaming without a nearby phone, placing it closer to a fully independent wearable than earlier Moto Watch models. Gizmodo Japan notes that this is Motorola’s latest launch at IFA 2026, although the company is not currently selling smartwatches in Japan.
The watch uses a 46mm case and a 1.5-inch OLED touchscreen, with physical controls on the side for users who prefer buttons and a crown. Gizmochina and Motorola’s own product pages describe a 1.5-inch curved pOLED panel with a 466 x 466 resolution, a variable refresh rate and very high peak brightness, while the device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 platform and runs Wear OS 6.
Motorola is also leaning on health and fitness features. According to the company, the watch includes multi-stage sleep tracking backed by Polar, the Serene breathing exercise app, inactivity reminders and dual-band GPS for more accurate location tracking. Gizmodo Japan says the wellness package also includes improved sleep monitoring and a running coach, while the presence of Google Gemini and Motorola’s Quira adds an AI layer to the software.
Battery life is the main trade-off. Gizmodo Japan says the Moto Watch Ultra lasts up to two days with always-on display switched off, a steep drop from the much longer endurance of previous Moto Watch models. Other listings put the battery at 550mAh and say the watch supports LTE and eSIM, with availability expected across selected markets in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North America and Asia-Pacific. Motorola has set the price at $350, or about ¥53,000, while other regional listings place it at €429.
