Oura begins its official entry into South Korea with the launch of the Ring 5, a compact and sophisticated health tracker focusing on personalised wellbeing monitoring rather than fitness alone.
Oura will formally enter the South Korean market on 25 August, using the launch of its Ring 5 to target consumers looking for a more discreet health tracker than a smartwatch. The company said the device will be sold through a dedicated pop-up store in Lotte World Mall in Seoul, as well as online, marking its first official sales push in the country. According to Newis, Oura is positioning the ring around personalised wellbeing monitoring rather than general-purpose fitness tracking.
The Oura Ring 5 is the company’s latest model and, according to Oura’s own product pages, measures 6.09mm across and about 2.28mm thick, making it one of the smallest smart rings available. Oura says the device is made from titanium, is water-resistant to 100 metres, and can run for six to nine days on a single charge. The ring is designed to track more than 50 health metrics, including sleep, activity, stress and women’s health, and is compatible with both iOS and Android.
Oura has spent more than a decade arguing that the finger is a better place than the wrist for collecting certain biometric signals. The company says the arteries in the finger can provide a stronger pulse signal to its optical sensors than the wrist, which it claims improves consistency and accuracy. Its support pages say the latest generation uses upgraded sensors, including LED emitters, photodetectors, a temperature sensor and an accelerometer. Reviews from technology outlets have generally praised the slimmer design, longer battery life and detailed sleep analytics, while also noting that the ring remains more of a wellbeing device than a replacement for dedicated sports wearables.
