Philips re-enters the Indian smartphone scene with the budget-friendly S7221 5G, featuring a large display, beefy battery, and 5G support, targeting value-conscious consumers.
Philips has made its first move back into the Indian smartphone market with the S7221 5G, a budget-oriented handset that goes on sale through Amazon India. The launch marks a notable return for a brand far better known in India for home appliances and consumer electronics than for phones. Pricing starts at Rs 20,499 for the 6GB plus 128GB model, rising to Rs 22,499 for the 8GB plus 128GB version.
The device is pitched around a large screen, a sizeable battery and a straightforward feature set aimed at value-conscious buyers. Gadgets 360 reports that the phone carries a 6.67-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while Beebom says it uses an LCD panel with 720 x 1,600 resolution. Both reports say the handset supports dual 5G SIMs and runs Android 16. Colour options include black, blue and grey.
On the hardware side, Philips is using an octa-core Unisoc T765 chipset, according to Beebom and The Tech Outlook. The camera setup centres on a 64-megapixel rear sensor, paired with a 16-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. Beebom says the software also includes AI scene optimisation and portrait mode, while Smartprix adds that the phone offers a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB OTG support and a side fingerprint reader.
Battery life is one of the main selling points. Philips says the S7221 5G is equipped with a 5,700mAh cell, and Beebom and The Tech Outlook report that a 25W charger is included in the box. Smartprix, however, lists 18W fast charging, suggesting there may be conflicting retail or specification information. The phone measures 166 x 77 x 8.95mm and weighs 210g, according to Beebom and The Tech Outlook, placing it firmly in the larger, heavier end of the mid-range market.
