Poco expands M-series with India launch of the M8 5G, featuring high-refresh display and enhanced multitasking features

Poco has officially launched the M8 5G in India, offering a large 6.77-inch display, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, and up to 16GB of RAM, signalling a strong mid-range market push.

Poco’s latest M-series entrant first surfaced on Flipkart India as a dedicated teaser page, where the company flagged an upcoming handset identified there as the M8x 5G. The microsite showed a sage green finish with a light gold camera housing and did little more than confirm 5G support, but it was enough to signal that a new model was about to join Poco’s mid-range line-up, which already includes the M8, M8 Pro, M8s and M8 Power. According to coverage from The Tech Outlook and Jpnn, the page also leaned on the brand’s prior M-series performance in India, suggesting Poco was using the launch to extend an established name rather than introduce an entirely new family.

Subsequent reports made the device’s specifications clearer and also exposed a naming inconsistency across early coverage. Gadgets360 and The Tech Outlook said the phone launched in India as the Poco M8 5G, rather than M8x 5G, and pointed to a 6.77-inch curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 3,200 nits. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip and runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15, placing it firmly in the upper end of the budget-to-mid-range bracket.

Battery and imaging hardware are also central to the pitch. According to Gadgets360 and Beebom, the phone carries a 5,520mAh silicon-carbon battery with 45W charging, a 50-megapixel dual rear camera setup and a 20-megapixel front camera. The Flipkart listing also indicated up to 16GB of memory through 8GB of physical RAM plus 8GB of virtual expansion, a specification that should help the device compete on multitasking and day-to-day responsiveness.

Beebom reported that the phone went on sale in India from 13 January 2026, with pricing starting at Rs 21,999, while Gadgets360 said introductory launch offers were available through Flipkart and Poco’s own website. Taken together, the teaser campaign and the launch listings suggest Poco aimed to build momentum early, then back it with a familiar formula: a large high-refresh display, a sizeable battery and a modest but current Snapdragon platform.
