Poco is launching the M8 5G in India on January 8, promising a design-focused mid-range device featuring a slim profile, high refresh rate display, and substantial battery life, targeting upper-budget and lower mid-range markets.
Poco has moved quickly from teaser to timetable for its next mid-range phone. The company has now confirmed that the Poco M8 5G will launch in India on January 8 at 12 pm IST, with sales set to run through Flipkart, according to Gizmochina and Moneycontrol. The handset is being pitched as a design-focused addition to Poco’s M series, which has traditionally leaned more heavily on value and performance.
The company’s Indian microsite has already given an early look at the device. Poco is showing a textured rear panel, a square camera island in the top-left corner and a dual-tone finish that combines green with gold accents. The brand is also claiming that the phone will be the slimmest in its price class, at 7.35mm thick and about 178 grams, a specification that suggests ergonomics is being treated as a key selling point.
Although Poco had not revealed the full specification sheet in the teaser phase, later reports fill in much of the picture. Gizmochina said the M8 5G uses a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, while the launch coverage from Gizmochina, Gadgets 360 and FoneArena points to a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with full-HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness as high as 3,200 nits. The phone also appears to support LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage.
The broader package is aimed squarely at the upper-budget and lower mid-range market. Reported features include a 50-megapixel rear camera, a 20-megapixel front camera, Android 15 with HyperOS 2, four years of operating system updates and six years of security patches. The device is also said to carry a 5,520mAh silicon-carbon battery with 45W charging, IP65 and IP66 dust and splash resistance, stereo speakers and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Pricing details varied across early reports, but all pointed to Poco using the M8 5G to sharpen its design credentials as much as its hardware specifications.
