POCO appears set to expand its global presence with the upcoming launch of the X8 series, including a rebranded Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, spotlighting a large battery, high refresh rate display, and durable design for the mid-range market.
POCO appears to be preparing a wider global push for its X8 family, with signs that the standard POCO X8 is next in line after the company centred attention on the X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max. The move would mark a return to a more complete line-up, after months in which the brand’s messaging focused mainly on the higher-end variants. The teaser shared by POCO on X used the series’ familiar yellow branding, pointing to an imminent international unveiling.
The strongest indication so far is that the POCO X8 will be a renamed Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, the model Xiaomi launched in China in July, according to the Portuguese technology site TugaTech and later device listings tracked by other outlets. If that holds, the phone would arrive with a 6.83-inch AMOLED display, 1.5K resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. It would also use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chip rather than the MediaTek processor found in the Pro Max.
The rest of the specification set is aimed at endurance rather than headline performance. The phone is said to come with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage. On the rear, the handset is expected to use a 50 MP main camera paired with a 2 MP depth sensor, while the front camera is listed at 8 MP. A large 8,340 mAh battery with 67W wired charging would be one of its main selling points.
The software side also looks current. The device is expected to ship with Android 16 and HyperOS 3, while connectivity reportedly includes 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC. Durability is another notable feature, with IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings mentioned in the leak trail. POCO has not announced a launch date, but the emerging picture suggests the company is preparing to broaden the X8 range beyond the Pro models and reassert its presence in the global mid-range market.
