REDMAGIC Astra 2 brings liquid cooling and a 185Hz OLED display to Malaysia

REDMAGIC has launched the Astra 2 in Malaysia, combining a liquid-cooling system, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 silicon and a 185Hz OLED display from RM3,399.

REDMAGIC has launched the Astra 2 gaming tablet in Malaysia, positioning it as a high-end device built around aggressive thermal design and flagship-class mobile silicon. The company says it is the first mass-produced gaming tablet to use liquid cooling, a claim that places the model in a small and closely watched segment of performance-focused Android tablets.

At the centre of the pitch is the AquaCore Cooling System 2.0, which REDMAGIC says uses a piezoelectric ceramic micropump to move fluorinated liquid through internal channels in the chassis. The company says the system is intended to draw heat away from the battery area as well as the processor, with a large vapour chamber and Liquid Metal 3.0 handling the chip cooling. REDMAGIC says the liquid loop is designed to remain stable across a wide temperature range and to avoid leaks or electrical conductivity issues.

The tablet is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with REDMAGIC’s RedCore R4 gaming chip. According to the company, that combination is intended to improve upscaling, power allocation and frame-rate stability in demanding titles. The Astra 2 is offered with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which puts it firmly in premium territory for Android tablets.

Its display is a 9.06-inch 2.4K OLED panel with a 185Hz refresh rate and peak brightness rated at 1,600 nits. REDMAGIC says it has also fitted a custom Synaptics touch controller capable of sampling at up to 2,000Hz, which is aimed at keeping touch response precise during fast-paced gaming. The tablet carries an 8,300mAh battery, supports charging at up to 75W over dual USB-C ports and includes reverse charging. REDMAGIC says its internal tests delivered more than nine hours of Genshin Impact at full frame rate.

Software is a major part of the product’s identity. REDMAGIC’s Game Space layer adds frame interpolation up to 120fps, 2K upscaling and gaming tools such as crosshair overlays and motion controls. The company also highlights AI-assisted features including Tactical Coach for strategy guidance in Delta Force, Performance Review for analysing play in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Mora Mouthpiece for in-game voice chat. Gravity X support allows the tablet to be connected to an external monitor for keyboard-and-mouse play, extending its use beyond handheld gaming.

The design follows the familiar REDMAGIC formula of a slim, flat body with an aviation-grade aluminium frame and a glass-accented rear panel. The tablet weighs 363g, measures 6.9mm thick and omits the camera bump found on many rivals. It also includes IP54 dust and splash resistance, fingerprint and facial recognition, Bluetooth 6.0, stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra support, 4D haptic motors and RGB lighting. The Malaysian pricing starts at RM3,399 for the 12GB/256GB version and RM3,999 for the 16GB/512GB model, while regional availability may vary.
