RedMagic introduces the Astra 2 gaming tablet to Malaysia, featuring a 9.06-inch 2K OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, and advanced cooling, cementing its position as a top-tier gaming slate.
RedMagic has brought the Astra 2 gaming tablet to Malaysia, extending a device line that the brand first introduced in China before rolling it out globally last month. The local launch confirms that the tablet is positioned squarely at buyers who want high refresh rates, aggressive cooling and gaming-focused design rather than a conventional productivity slate.
At the centre of the Astra 2 is a 9.06-inch 2K OLED panel with a 185Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness rating of 1,600 nits. RedMagic says the screen supports instantaneous touch sampling up to 2,000Hz and carries SGS low blue light certification. The display also avoids cut-outs, which gives it a more uninterrupted presentation than many competing Android tablets. For protection, the device uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and carries an IP54 rating for resistance to dust and splashes.
The hardware is built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, coupled with RedMagic’s RedCore R4 gaming chip. According to RedMagic, that pairing is intended to improve visual performance while also managing power more efficiently. Memory goes up to 16GB and storage to 512GB, while an 8,300mAh dual-cell battery supports 75W charging. The company says a full charge takes about an hour. RedMagic also highlights its AquaCore Cooling System 2.0, which combines liquid cooling and a vapour chamber, with part of the thermal setup visible through the transparent rear panel.
The tablet runs Android 16 with RedMagic OS 11.5 and includes a 13MP rear camera, a 9MP under-display front camera, dual stereo speakers and a customisable Magic Key. In Malaysia, it will be offered in Black Eclipse and Starfrost. The 12GB plus 256GB model is priced at RM3,599, while the 16GB plus 512GB version costs RM4,399. Sales begin on 8 September 2026 at 8pm through RedMagic’s official website and Shopee store, with launch buyers set to receive a screen protector, a magnetic cooling case and CMF Buds 2a until 30 September 2026. Android Central recently named the Astra 2 the best gaming tablet in its 2026 Android tablet guide, reflecting its emphasis on display speed and flagship-class hardware.
