Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand is moving to refresh its entry-level line-up with the Redmi 17 series, combining a large battery, a 120Hz display and modest chipsets aimed at everyday use. The focus is on value rather than outright performance, with leaks and official material pointing to two closely related models: a Redmi 17 5G already launched in China and a Redmi 17 4G that has appeared in renders and catalogue listings.
According to reports from Cinco Días and Xiaomi’s Chinese launch details, the Redmi 17 5G measures 170.12mm by 74.42mm by 8.8mm, weighs 235g and comes in orange, black and blue. The orange version is said to use a vegan leather-style rear finish. The phone centres on a 6.9-inch LCD panel with HD+ resolution, a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz and peak brightness of 825 nits, protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.
The Chinese version uses an octa-core Unisoc T8300 processor, with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Xiaomi says it includes a 6,300mAh battery with 15W charging, 7.5W reverse charging and support for Power Delivery and Quick Charge. The camera arrangement is basic: a 13-megapixel rear sensor and an 8-megapixel front camera.
The Redmi 17 4G appears to follow a similar design, but with a MediaTek Helio G91-class chip rather than 5G hardware. Listings cited by GSMChoice and Mobile57 point to a 6.9-inch 120Hz IPS display, a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel selfie camera and storage options of 128GB or 256GB. Those same listings indicate 4GB or 6GB of RAM, Android 16 with HyperOS 3.0 and an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance.
Leaked renders published by Gizmochina also suggest a widened rear camera module with a light ring and colour options including Deep Blue, Black, Oak Green and possibly Lotus Purple. The handset is expected to measure 170.12mm by 78.42mm by 8.8mm and weigh about 232g. Gadgets 360 and Cinco Días put the expected price around €250, which would position the Redmi 17 4G squarely in the budget segment if Xiaomi brings it to more markets.
