Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces a more practical design with a wider front screen and refined proportions, aiming to make foldable phones more user-friendly and versatile for everyday use.
Samsung’s latest foldable is built around a simpler idea than earlier versions: make the outside screen more usable, then open the device into something that feels closer to a small tablet. According to Samsung’s product page, the Galaxy Z Fold8 pairs a compact cover display with a larger inner panel, while early hands-on coverage from Geekzone says the wider front screen is better suited to scrolling social feeds and quick tasks. Reviewers have also pointed to the redesigned proportions as the main change that makes the phone feel less awkward than older Fold models.
The main display measures 7.6 inches, with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel rated for 120Hz refresh. The cover screen is 5.4 inches and uses a 10:16 layout. Geekzone and Xataka both describe the device as unusually slim when unfolded, while Samsung positions the form factor as one that balances portability with more generous multitasking space. That larger inner screen supports side-by-side apps and even three-way split-screen use, which should appeal to people who want a phone that can double as a work device.
Inside, Samsung has paired One UI 9.0, its version of Android 17, with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 12GB of RAM. Storage starts at 256GB and rises to 1TB. Xataka’s technical summary and Geekzone’s review both frame the hardware as flagship-class, while Tom’s Guide says the wider design and anti-glare displays help the Fold8 feel more practical day to day. Samsung also includes Samsung DeX, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and Ultra-Wideband support, keeping the phone aligned with the rest of its premium ecosystem.
Battery capacity is 4,800mAh, which is smaller than the largest slabs but still intended to carry most users through a full day. The phone has one physical nano-SIM slot and uses eSIM for a second line. It carries an IP48 rating, so it offers limited protection against dust and splashes but not full water immersion. Tom’s Guide said charging is improved over previous models, while also noting that dust resistance remains incomplete, a familiar compromise in the foldable category.
Camera hardware remains a mixed picture. Geekzone says the Fold8 uses two 50-megapixel rear cameras, plus 10-megapixel front and cover cameras, with 2x optical zoom and up to 10x digital zoom. Digital Camera World and Android Central both note the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens, with Android Central finding the standard Fold8 weaker than the Fold8 Ultra in zoom and overall detail. Samsung has also added AI-assisted video tracking and a new Now Nudge feature, which can suggest actions based on what is on screen, such as adding an event or opening a split view. Reviewers say the hinge feels solid, the crease is less obvious and the back panel is easier to grip than some rivals. The device is available in Lavender, Graphite, Cream and Pistachio, and Geekzone says it is on sale in New Zealand now.
