Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold 8 aims to redefine practicality in foldable smartphones with its compact design and versatile display, while flexible financing options in the Philippines make high-end technology more accessible.
Samsung’s latest book-style foldable is being positioned as a more practical alternative to the bulkier models that came before it, and early reviews suggest that is the point. Digital Camera World described the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as compact enough to sit between the smaller Flip range and the larger Ultra-style foldables, while Android Central said its shorter body and wider screen ratio make it far easier to live with than earlier generations. Both reviews noted that Samsung has trimmed the bulk without making the device feel compromised.
That matters because the Fold 8 is built around a simple trade-off: a small outer screen for quick tasks and a much larger internal display for serious work. Reviewers said the 5.5-inch cover panel is usable for messaging, calls and video, while the 7.6-inch main screen makes split-screen multitasking and media viewing much more comfortable. Android Central said the device can run three apps at once, and PhoneArena praised the redesigned shape as especially sensible for web browsing and video. Digital Camera World added that the panel’s crease is far less visible than before, although the cover display can still feel tight for one-handed typing.
Performance appears to be another strength. The Fold 8 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, with memory and storage options reaching 16GB and 1TB, according to the reviews. Battery life is also widely described as strong for the class, even if the phone can warm up under sustained pressure. TechSpot said the device can become hot during heavier use and that Samsung still leaves some compromises on the table, including the absence of a telephoto camera and limited dust protection. Digital Camera World reached a similar conclusion, noting that the camera system is competent in daylight but not class-leading at this price.
In the Philippines, the Fold 8 is being sold as a premium purchase, with the lead launch note placing the base model at ₱109,990 and the 1TB version at ₱137,990. That is where Maya Mini Payments comes in. Maya says eligible credit cardholders can convert purchases in the app into instalment plans, and the company has also promoted a 3-month 0% interest option for pre-orders, with zero processing fees on eligible electronics purchases until September 30, 2026. The Daily Tribune reported that Maya’s Mini Payments feature can also extend to 6, 9 or 12 months, with approval and tracking handled in-app, giving buyers a way to spread out the cost of a high-end foldable without going through a separate finance process.
