Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 is generating unprecedented pre-order interest in Malaysia and globally, outpacing its Ultra variant amid a surge in foldable device popularity and recognising a shift towards practical yet innovative foldable smartphones.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 appears to be off to a strong start in Malaysia, with early pre-orders generating heavy traffic and signs that demand is already outstripping supply. Samsung Malaysia said thousands of customers tried to place orders at the same time soon after sales opened, and that the Fold8 has drawn more interest than the more expensive Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The company attributes that response to the model’s redesigned shape, refined appearance and new user experience.
The early sales momentum is not isolated to Malaysia. Tom’s Guide reported that Samsung’s broader Galaxy Z8 series has set a new pre-order record, with 1.44 million units ordered between July 28 and August 3, more than 30% higher than the previous year’s launch. That report said nearly half of all pre-orders were for the Fold8, reflecting a clear preference for its wider, shorter design over the taller Ultra variant. Android Central separately reported that the Fold8 was also outperforming Samsung’s other new foldables in South Korea, where insiders said the device had surpassed both the Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip8 in early demand.
Samsung’s Malaysian pricing puts the Fold8 at RM7,299 for the 256GB version, RM8,099 for 512GB and RM9,699 for 1TB. It is sold in Graphite, Cream and Lavender, with Pistachio reserved for online orders. Customers who pre-order are placed on a priority fulfilment list, with the earliest deliveries expected from August 11, depending on stock and channel. Samsung Malaysia is also offering launch incentives worth up to RM1,950 for orders placed between July 22 and August 13, including rebates, rewards points, a reservation voucher and discounts on selected accessories.
The pressure on early stock matters because the Fold8 is being positioned as Samsung’s more practical premium foldable, while the Ultra is aimed at buyers wanting the larger specification set. Tom’s Guide said the Fold8 uses a redesigned folding mechanism with a reduced crease, improved cameras and a lighter build, while Android Central noted that its wider cover display makes multitasking easier. That combination appears to be resonating with buyers, and Samsung’s own figures suggest the model is becoming the standout device in its latest foldable line-up.
