Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z8 foldable smartphones are rapidly gaining popularity in Southeast Asia and Oceania, with pre-orders surpassing previous records and indicating strong consumer interest in the new models’ innovative designs and features.
Samsung Electronics said its new Galaxy Z8 foldables have set a strong early pace in Southeast Asia and Oceania, with the Galaxy Z Fold8 emerging as the clear front-runner. The company said pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra were up by almost 60% from the Galaxy Z Fold7 across the region, reflecting brisk demand for the latest generation of its folding phones.
The Fold8 accounted for almost six in every ten Galaxy Z8 orders in the region, according to Samsung. The company said the appeal lies in the device’s wider, redesigned form factor, which it pitches for video, reading and gaming. Samsung says the Fold8 has a 7.6-inch main display, weighs 201 grams and is its lightest Galaxy Z Fold model to date.
Samsung positioned the Fold8 Ultra as the more productivity-focused option, with an 8-inch screen, a 200-megapixel main camera and a thinner build at 4.1mm when unfolded. The Galaxy Z Flip8, by contrast, is aimed at users who want a lighter, more pocketable device, and Samsung says its revised FlexWindow gives quicker access to apps and actions from the cover screen.
The strongest response was also visible in the Philippines, where Samsung said the Fold8 became its best-selling foldable during the pre-order window and made up almost 60% of Galaxy Z8 orders from July 22. At one point, the company said, sales in the country were running at nearly one device a minute. Smart Communications has also been promoting the range locally with storage upgrades, trade-in offers and bundled smartwatch deals.
The regional figures mirror other signs of heavy demand elsewhere. Reuters reports and local business coverage from South Korea said the Galaxy Z8 series hit a record 1.44 million pre-orders in Samsung’s home market, surpassing the company’s previous high for a Galaxy phone launch. Tom’s Guide and PhoneArena also reported that the wider Fold8 was taking a larger share of orders than the Flip8, with Graphite among the most popular colour choices. Samsung has meanwhile tied the phones more closely to its broader ecosystem, adding the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, alongside updated Smart Switch and Quick Share features intended to make transfers and file sharing easier across Galaxy and iOS devices.
