Samsung launches a 14-inch Galaxy Book6 model starting at $799, targeting everyday users with a focus on battery life and practical features, expanding its PC lineup to attract broader audiences amid rising laptop prices.
Samsung has added a more affordable model to its Galaxy Book6 range, introducing a 14-inch Windows laptop that starts at $799 and is aimed at everyday users rather than buyers seeking a premium ultrabook. According to Samsung’s announcement, the machine is designed for work, study, browsing and streaming, with the company pitching it as a broader entry point into its PC lineup. The launch also places it alongside Apple’s MacBook Neo, although Samsung is leaning more heavily on battery life, screen size and ports than on display sharpness.
The new Book6 is expected to use Intel’s Wildcat Lake processors, with Intel Core 3 304 and Core 5 315 chips the likely options, although Samsung has not formally confirmed the exact silicon. The base model includes 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, while higher trims are set to go up to 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage. Samsung’s own materials say the device also includes Galaxy AI features, which suggests the company is trying to keep its ecosystem appeal even in a lower-priced segment.
On paper, the specifications are modest but practical. The display is a 14-inch panel with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 and a peak brightness of 350 nits. The chassis is 15.7mm thick and weighs 1.35kg, or about 2.97 pounds. Samsung says the laptop carries a 61.2Wh battery and can last for up to 25 hours, a figure that is difficult to compare directly with rivals until independent testing is available. In Apple’s case, the MacBook Neo is rated at up to 16 hours and has a sharper, brighter 2,408 x 1,506 display rated at 500 nits.
Samsung appears to be making a deliberate trade-off. Rather than chasing the thinnest design or the highest-resolution screen, the company is highlighting a more generous port selection, which includes two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, HDMI and a 3.5mm headphone socket. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 and includes stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. That makes the Galaxy Book6 more conventional and, in practical terms, easier to live with than some minimalist rivals.
The new model also differs from other Galaxy Book6 machines Samsung has shown before, including earlier Panther Lake-based versions. By contrast, this Wildcat Lake configuration sits at the lower end of the range and is meant to widen access rather than push performance boundaries. Samsung says the laptop will reach select markets first, with wider availability to follow, but it has not set out a full release schedule or detailed pricing for the higher-spec variants. As a result, its appeal will depend not just on the headline battery claim, but on how the final configurations perform in everyday use.
