Samsung introduces the Galaxy S26 FE in South Africa, highlighting advanced AI camera functions, a vibrant display, and extended software updates, making it an attractive new option in the mid-range smartphone market.
Samsung has brought the Galaxy S26 FE to South Africa, positioning it as the more affordable entry in its S26 line-up. The company says the handset arrives with One UI 9, Galaxy AI features from launch and a stronger focus on camera tools for video, travel and everyday use.
According to Samsung’s local announcement, the phone has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1,900 nits. It is powered by the 3nm Exynos 2500 processor, paired with 8GB of memory, and runs with a 4,900mAh battery that supports 45W wired charging. The device also offers 15W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging for compatible accessories.
The camera system is led by a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilisation, alongside a 12MP ultra-wide lens and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Samsung says the S26 FE includes Nightography for low-light shots, My FanCam for automatic subject framing, Super Steady for smoother handheld video and Horizontal Lock to help keep footage level. A 12MP front camera is fitted for selfies and calls.
On the software side, Samsung is leaning heavily on AI. Gemini can handle multi-step requests, while Now Brief gathers selected information into a summary screen and Now Nudge looks for moments when an action may be useful. Circle to Search and Gemini Live are also included, and Samsung says Photo Assist can edit images in plain language, with AI-generated outputs marked by a visible watermark. Some features depend on account sign-in, connectivity and language support.
In South Africa, the Galaxy S26 FE is priced at R15,499 for the 128GB model and R17,999 for the 256GB version. Colour choices are Blueberry, Graphite and Pistachio. Samsung says the phone is available through mobile operators, retailers, Samsung Experience Stores and its online shop, and that buyers receive a six-month trial of Google AI Pro. The company also promises seven generations of Android upgrades and seven years of security updates from the global launch date, though timing can vary by market and operator.
