Samsung introduces the Galaxy SmartTag3, a compact, longer-lasting item tracker with expanded compatibility for iOS and Galaxy devices, set to disrupt consumer tracking with enhanced features and battery endurance.
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy SmartTag3, a smaller, lighter item tracker that is aimed at people who want a less obtrusive way to keep tabs on keys, bags, luggage or even a pet collar. According to Samsung’s announcement, the new model is about 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor, while keeping an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. The company is also offering silicone and loop accessories to make the revised shape easier to attach in everyday use.
The headline claim is battery endurance. Samsung says the SmartTag3 can last for up to 550 days in standard use, or up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. That places the device among the longer-lived consumer trackers now being sold, although the figure is based on Samsung’s own testing rather than a guarantee for every user. The launch materials also say the tag will come in white and black, and that U.S. availability is due by early November 2026 at $29.99 for a single unit or $99.99 for a four-pack.
Samsung is also widening compatibility. The SmartTag3 is described as working with both Galaxy and iOS devices, marking a notable shift from earlier Samsung trackers that were more tightly bound to the Galaxy ecosystem. That matters in mixed-phone households, where a lost item may need to be searched for by more than one person. Coverage from Gizmochina and other outlets said the tag’s iOS support is one of the most significant functional changes, alongside the reduced size and longer claimed battery life.
The location features are broader than simple proximity finding. Samsung says Compass View uses Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding to help users locate an item from up to 60 metres away, while Place Notification, Location History and Movement Detection Alert are meant to warn owners when something is moved or leaves a set area. Lost Mode also lets someone who finds the tag scan it with NFC to see contact details or a message, although Samsung makes clear that off-range updates still depend on nearby participating Galaxy devices rather than continuous GPS. In practice, that means the SmartTag3 is designed to narrow a search and speed up recovery, not to replace a dedicated real-time tracker.
