Samsung ramps up Galaxy Z Fold 8 production as pre-orders soar past 5 million

Samsung is increasing production of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 following record-breaking pre-orders, signalling a shift towards mainstream adoption of large foldable devices amid rising demand and positive early sales indicators.

Samsung has reportedly moved to raise output of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 after demand for the large-format foldable outstripped expectations. According to ETNews, the company ordered an additional 1 million units this week, building on already elevated production levels that were higher than those of earlier generations. The move suggests Samsung is treating the latest foldable as more than a niche launch and is preparing for sustained demand beyond the first sales window.

That demand appears to have been visible well before the phone reached stores. Samsung said pre-orders for its 2026 foldable range set a new company record, with the line-up exceeding the long-standing benchmark set by the Galaxy Note 10 series. Tom’s Guide reported that Samsung logged 1.44 million pre-orders in the first week alone, while ETNews said the combined total for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 was approaching 5 million worldwide. Both reports said the wider Fold 8 accounted for a large share of those orders, underlining a clear preference for the book-style model over the clamshell alternative.

In South Korea, the response has been especially strong. ETNews said the three-device foldable range recorded 1.44 million pre-orders in the country during the first week, and Samsung’s sales mix shows the Fold 8 taking more than half of all foldable pre-orders. Tom’s Guide reported that nearly half of Samsung’s overall pre-orders were for the standard Fold 8, with the Graphite finish the most popular option and Lavender already sold out. SamMobile also reported that the base model was outselling the Ultra version, with stock running short at online stores and some carriers.

The strength of the launch matters because foldables still carry premium pricing. Samsung’s latest models start well above conventional smartphones, yet launch promotions from carriers and retailers have helped soften the entry cost. Even so, the sales pattern suggests buyers are responding not just to discounts but to design changes that make the Fold 8 easier to use day to day, including a wider cover display and a reduced crease. With Apple also reported to be developing a foldable iPhone, Samsung’s latest numbers may be less a one-off success than an early sign that large foldables are moving closer to the mainstream.
