Samsung redefines Galaxy Watch with focus on outdoor, water activities and proactive health tracking

Samsung unveils a new approach to wearable technology by demonstrating the Galaxy Watch’s versatility in outdoor sports and advanced health tracking features, aiming to make health monitoring more intuitive and activity-focused.

Samsung has used a consumer event to position Galaxy Watch as more than a fitness accessory, staging hands-on demonstrations in surf, diving, yoga, golf and padel rather than a conventional product presentation. The company says the aim is to show how the watch fits into movement, performance and recovery in everyday life, both on land and in water.

That broader message is consistent with Samsung’s latest health push. According to a Samsung announcement, the next wave of Galaxy Watch software is designed to make wellbeing tracking more proactive by turning overnight biometric data into simpler guidance. The update adds Vitals, which compares heart rate, heart-rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen against a resting baseline to flag meaningful changes.

Samsung has also been widening the range of health signals it surfaces through Samsung Health. Reports on the redesign say the app now emphasises sleep, activity, nutrition, mindfulness and vitals, while retaining established measures such as Energy Score, Sleep Score and the Antioxidant Index. The result is a more interpretation-led experience, aimed at helping users understand what the numbers mean rather than simply recording them.

On the fitness side, Galaxy Watch 9 is being pitched as a daily training companion as much as a tracker. Samsung says it combines coaching tools, recovery guidance and AI-led suggestions across activities including walking, cycling, yoga, strength training and running. The company argues that this should help users maintain regular exercise without treating health as a narrow performance metric.

The more rugged Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is aimed at users who want a tougher device for outdoor and aquatic activity. Reports from technology reviewers say it brings a larger 800mAh battery, the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, a slimmer titanium case and stronger support for trail running and diving. Samsung has also highlighted underwater use cases such as surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, open-water swimming and diving, presenting the watch as a device for environments where durability, visibility and longer battery life matter.
