Samsung launches the Galaxy SmartTag3, a smaller, lighter Bluetooth tracker compatible with both Galaxy and iOS devices, featuring extended battery life and improved precision locating technology.
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy SmartTag3, a smaller and lighter tracker designed to help users keep tabs on keys, bags and pets. According to Samsung, the new model is about 35% smaller and 33% lighter than its predecessor, and it adopts a rounded body with an aluminium-finished button. The company is also offering dedicated accessories, including silicone and loop cases, to make the device easier to attach and carry.
One of the main changes is broader compatibility. Samsung says the SmartTag3 is the first in the series to work across both Galaxy and iOS devices, extending location checking and sharing beyond Samsung’s own ecosystem. That makes the tracker more useful for households and workplaces where different mobile platforms are in use, rather than only among Galaxy owners.
Battery life has also been extended. The SmartTag3 uses a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery and is rated for up to 550 days in normal use, or as long as 790 days in power-saving mode. Samsung says it has also strengthened the location-finding experience, with Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding now used for Compass View, allowing users to see direction and approximate distance from up to 60 metres away. For closer searches, ultra-wideband technology is used to provide more precise positioning.
However, the most advanced directional search functions will not be available everywhere at launch. Samsung says Compass View support is limited to a small number of its newer devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy S26 Plus, with broader support expected later. When a tag is outside direct connection range, the Galaxy Find Network can still help locate it through nearby Galaxy devices, which Samsung says now number more than 900 million worldwide.
The tracker also adds a series of practical alerts and controls. Users can set location-based notifications, receive warnings if movement is detected after a disconnection, and review location history to trace where an item has been. The device carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, and NFC-based Lost Mode lets someone who finds the tag scan it with a compatible phone to view registered contact details or a message. Samsung says the SmartTag3 will go on sale in South Korea on 7 October, with a wider international rollout to follow, in white and black finishes at KRW 44,000, while a four-pack bundle will cost KRW 149,600.
