Samsung unveils the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, introducing a more affordable foldable flagship amid fierce carrier competition and hefty trade-in discounts, reshaping the premium smartphone landscape.
Samsung has unveiled its latest foldable phones, and the company’s new Galaxy Z Fold 8 is emerging as the standout model in a line-up that also includes the pricier Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Z Flip 8. The wider, shorter book-style handset is being pitched as the more affordable way into Samsung’s redesigned foldable range, while the Ultra is positioned as the premium option for buyers who want the best camera and display specifications.
In the UK, Samsung has set the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at £1,699, with the Z Fold 8 Ultra starting at £1,899 and the Z Flip 8 from £1,149. According to Samsung’s UK store and reporting from The Independent, the Fold 8 comes in lavender, graphite and cream, with pistachio sold only through Samsung, while the Ultra is offered in violet shadow, graphite and cream, plus an exclusive green shadow finish. All three models are available with multiple storage options, and Samsung is including six months of Google AI Pro with purchases.
The most eye-catching pre-order incentive remains Samsung’s own trade-in scheme. The company is offering up to £752 off the Fold 8 if customers hand in an eligible device, with an additional £100 discount available by using the code Z8 at checkout. Samsung is also offering 0 per cent finance through Samsung Finance+ and, for buyers who do not trade in a handset, a £100 saving through PayPal has been reported by SamMobile.
Carriers are also competing hard for early buyers. EE has the cheapest Fold 8 headline price among the major networks in The Independent’s round-up, while Sky Mobile is bundling Galaxy Watch 9 models with selected pre-orders and offering extra trade-in value. O2 is promoting Galaxy Buds 4 Pro for £1 with eligible purchases, Vodafone is advertising sizeable trade-in savings and Tesco Mobile is dangling a £100 Clubcard voucher. Three is also discounting handsets and airtime, though its offers are less aggressive than some rivals.
The hardware itself reflects Samsung’s push to make foldables more practical. Tom’s Guide reports that the Fold 8 uses a 7.6-inch main AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 12GB of RAM and dual 50MP rear cameras, while the Ultra steps up to an 8-inch screen and a 200MP main camera with telephoto support. Android Central says Samsung is also promising seven years of software support, underlining how central long-term updates have become in the flagship phone market.
