Sky Mobile has begun offering the iPhone 17 with a notable discount for the first time since its September debut, featuring a £12 upfront payment for the 256GB model and flexible contract options, signalling a shift in market pricing strategies.
Apple’s iPhone 17 has gone on sale at Sky Mobile for the first time since its September launch, with the 256GB model advertised at £12 upfront and £25 a month on a 36-month contract. That pricing works out at roughly 79p a day, a modest reduction but still a notable one for a handset that had not previously been discounted, according to the retailer’s listing.
The Sky offer is limited to the 256GB version in Lavender, Mist Blue, Sage, Black and White. Sky says customers can swap their phone every 24 months at no extra cost, although the plan comes with only 100MB of data unless buyers pay more for a larger allowance. Sky’s own mobile page also lists delivery at one to two weeks, subject to status and credit checks.
Apple launched the iPhone 17 in September with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display and ProMotion, which enables an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The phone also uses Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, which Apple says improves scratch resistance, and is powered by the A19 chip. Apple lists Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support, along with 256GB and 512GB storage options.
For buyers weighing outright purchase against contracts, the market is already showing sharper pricing. Amazon has recently listed the iPhone 17 at £749, down from £799, while other retailers are using contract incentives to draw attention. Some rival mobile deals also bundle extras such as AirPods, but often at the cost of a larger upfront payment or a higher monthly tariff.
