Snap puts $2,195 price tag on consumer AR glasses launching in 2026

Snap has opened pre-orders for Specs, its first consumer augmented reality glasses designed for everyday wear, with shipments due in the US, UK and France from autumn 2026.

Snap has opened pre-orders for its first consumer augmented reality glasses, a device it says is intended to be worn as an everyday pair of spectacles rather than a short-term demo unit. The company has priced the new product, called Specs, at $2,195, with a $200 refundable deposit required to reserve a pair. Shipments are scheduled to begin in the US, the UK and France in autumn 2026.

The glasses mark Snap’s most ambitious move yet in wearable computing and its first consumer AR hardware in years. According to reporting by MacRumors, Forbes, Nasdaq, TechCrunch and Wareable, Specs uses lightweight Swiss TR90 polymer and will be sold in two sizes, with the smaller version weighing 132 grams and the larger 136 grams. The design is intended to balance durability and prolonged wear, although the price places it firmly in the premium category.

Technically, the device relies on stereo waveguide displays and a 51-degree field of view, which Snap says can create a vivid virtual image while preserving awareness of the surrounding environment. Forbes reported that the lenses use electrochromic technology that changes from clear to tinted in around 10 seconds, making them more suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The glasses are also prescription-compatible, which broadens their appeal beyond early adopters and developers.

Snap says Specs runs as a standalone device, powered by dual Snapdragon processors and its Snap OS 2.0 software. The system uses cameras and sensors to support computer vision, hand tracking, voice input and AI-assisted functions. Battery life is listed at up to four hours for mixed use, rising to about 20 hours with the charging case. That combination suggests a product aimed at creators, mobile professionals and enthusiasts prepared to pay a high entry cost for a still-nascent category of hardware.
