Snap reveals premium SPECS AR glasses with AI support and hefty price tag

Snap announces its high-end SPECS augmented-reality glasses, priced at $2,195, with limited US, UK, and France availability this autumn. The device features a lightweight design, advanced display, and proactive AI, marking a significant step into premium AR wearables.

Snap has set out the commercial terms for its forthcoming SPECS augmented-reality glasses, placing the device firmly in premium territory at $2,195 and asking buyers to place a refundable $200 deposit through SPECS.com. According to Snap’s announcement, shipping is due later this autumn, with availability initially limited to the US, the UK and France.

The company is positioning SPECS as a lightweight but technically dense headset. Snap says the display uses a transparent waveguide built from many nanostructures, with a 51-degree field of view that it compares to a 115-inch screen viewed from around 10 feet away. Official images show a thick black frame with small cameras set symmetrically at the upper corners, while the lenses remain see-through so the display is not visible to bystanders. The frame itself is made from Swiss TR90 polymer, and Snap lists two sizes: Narrow Fit at 47mm and Wide Fit at 52mm, weighing 132g and 136g respectively.

The glasses also include custom stereo speakers and six high signal-to-noise MEMS microphones built into the temples, underscoring the device’s focus on hands-free interaction. Snap has paired the hardware with SPECS Intelligence, which it describes as a proactive AI service. In the US, adults aged 18 and over can download the iOS SPECS app from the day of the announcement and try a preview version.

To support mobility, Snap has introduced the SPECS Charging Case with Cellular, a separate accessory that adds four extra charges and cellular connectivity. In the US, Verizon will sell a SPECS Connected Case bundle for $2,395, with financing options including 36-month instalments for eligible customers. Verizon’s Connected Wearable data plans start at $10 a month for its own subscribers and $20 for non-subscribers. Snap said it has also partnered with Orange in France and EE in the UK, although it has not disclosed those operators’ pricing.

For hands-on access, Snap plans a guided pop-up called SPECS First Look at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles from 1 October. The company also says the product does not use face recognition to identify people and is not designed to record the world continuously. Snap has not yet disclosed Japanese availability or yen pricing.
