Sony reintroduces the compact FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS lens for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras, offering enhanced portability and versatility with an optional teleconverter and ongoing promotional offers in the Philippines.
Sony has put the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS back into focus as a relatively compact super-telephoto zoom for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras, with Philippine pre-orders set at Php 53,000. According to Sony’s local page, the promotion runs from 5 August to 4 September 2026 and includes a free H&Y Ultimate HD Protection Filter 67mm, while buyers can also save Php 6,000 on either the 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverter.
At about 654 grams, the lens is positioned as a lighter alternative in a focal range normally associated with much larger optics. Sony says the design is intended to make handheld shooting easier and to help photographers frame fast-moving subjects more quickly, with the 100-400mm range aimed at birds, sport, trains and aircraft. The lens can also work with an optional teleconverter, extending reach to 800mm on full-frame bodies and to 1,200mm in APS-C mode.
Optically, the lens uses two ED glass elements and two aspherical elements to control chromatic aberration and other distortions across the zoom range. Sony also fits a nine-blade circular aperture for smoother background blur. The minimum focus distance is 0.86 metres at the telephoto end and 1.13 metres at the wide end, with a maximum magnification of 0.41x, which gives it some close-up flexibility for a lens of this type.
Sony pairs the optics with a linear motor drive for quick, quiet autofocus and built-in optical image stabilisation. The company says the lens supports coordinated stabilisation on compatible bodies, as well as breathing compensation for video on supported cameras. For outdoor use, it includes a focus hold button, focus mode and range switches, and a zoom lock, while Sony notes that the weather-resistant design is not fully sealed against dust or water droplets.
