TCL unveils its P80 series at IFA 2026 in Berlin, featuring the groundbreaking NXTPAPER AMOLED display technology, larger screens, and enhanced AI features targeting both premium and budget segments in Europe.
TCL has used IFA 2026 in Berlin to push harder into Europe’s smartphone market with the P80 series, a three-model line-up built around larger displays, AI features, improved battery life and a clear emphasis on eye comfort. The new family consists of the P80 Ultra, P80 Pro and P80, and TCL says the devices are designed to cover both premium and more affordable price points.
The most notable technical step is the arrival of NXTPAPER AMOLED on the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro. TCL says the display system blends the contrast and colour benefits of AMOLED with its own low-glare, low-blue-light approach, which the company says keeps blue light emissions below 3% and adjusts brightness and colour temperature automatically to suit the environment. The P80 Ultra has a 6.83-inch 1.5K panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a claimed peak brightness of 3,200 nits.
TCL is also leaning on software controls to make the screen more adaptable. A dedicated NXTPAPER Key switches between viewing modes, including Paper Mode for a more paper-like appearance and Max Ink Mode, which converts the interface to black and white and limits distractions. The company has paired this with Gemini, Circle to Search, translation tools and Smart Voice Memo across the range, indicating that AI is being used more for practical functions than for show.
Camera hardware is a key differentiator for the P80 Ultra. TCL equips it with a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom, alongside a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 32-megapixel front camera. The phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Elite chip, with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, and it carries a 5,800mAh battery with 45W charging. TCL also says the handset is IP68-rated and has passed MIL-STD-810H testing.
The P80 Pro keeps much of that formula but drops the periscope camera, while the standard P80 moves to a regular AMOLED panel without NXTPAPER. The entry model still offers a 6.83-inch 1.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate, but uses the Dimensity 7300, a 5,000mAh battery and more modest storage options. Across the line, TCL has standardised IP68 protection, stereo DTS speakers, dual-SIM support and European bundles that include a TPU case and cable, while the 45W charger is sold separately.
Pricing starts at €349 for the P80, €429 for the P80 Pro and €549 for the P80 Ultra. TCL says the first European units arrive on 11 September 2026, with the Ultra’s 512GB version priced at €599 and the P80 Pro’s larger storage option following later in the month. The company’s timing suggests it wants the P80 series to compete in a crowded mid-range segment by combining distinctive screen technology with features that are more often associated with higher-end phones.
