TCL has introduced the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro, the first smartphones to merge AMOLED screens with NXTPAPER technology, offering a unique paper-like finish alongside vibrant displays, at IFA 2026.
TCL has used IFA 2026 to push its NXTPAPER idea into a new category: smartphones with AMOLED panels that still aim for a paper-like finish. According to reports from Notebookcheck and other trade publications, the P80 Ultra is the first handset to combine TCL’s NXTPAPER treatment with an OLED screen, giving the company a product that tries to sit between a vivid phone display and the softer look associated with e-readers.
The P80 Ultra centres on a 6.83-inch 1.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 3,200 nits. TCL has also added an anti-reflective layer, together with what it calls a Max Ink mode, which switches the interface to a monochrome, paper-inspired presentation. Notebookcheck said the panel also uses Nano Crystal Shield Glass and circular polarisation filters to improve visibility outdoors and under sunglasses.
Inside, the phone runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Elite chip, paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. A 5,800mAh battery supports 45W charging, while the rear camera array includes a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens. The P80 Ultra also carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, according to Notebookcheck.
TCL is also shipping the P80 Pro, which keeps the same NXTPAPER AMOLED approach and Dimensity 7400 Elite processor but drops the telephoto camera. Both phones launch with Android 16, and TCL says they will receive four Android version upgrades and seven years of security patches. European pricing starts at €549 for the P80 Ultra and €429 for the P80 Pro, with Latin American availability expected in October and no confirmed Brazilian launch date yet.
