Tecno unveils the Pova 8 Pro 5G with a distinctive rear light system dubbed the Alive Matrix Display, combining aesthetic appeal with functional notifications as part of its refreshed mid-range lineup.
Tecno is preparing to add another entry to its Pova line-up, with the Pova 8 Pro 5G now tied to an August 18 launch window. The key talking point is its rear light system, which Tecno calls the Alive Matrix Display. Rather than acting as a conventional second screen, it is designed to flash alerts, animations and status cues around the camera module, giving the handset a more visible identity in the crowded mid-range market.
According to Tecno’s official specification page, the feature uses 177 individually controlled LED beads and can respond to more than 49 scenarios, including calls, messages, gaming and file transfers. That makes it closer to a smart notification panel than a usable secondary display. In practical terms, it is meant to provide glanceable information when the phone is face down, on silent, or being used in a setting where a full screen alert would be intrusive.
The rest of the specification sheet places the Pova 8 Pro 5G firmly in the performance-focused mid-range bracket. Tecno lists a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass 7i protection and a claimed peak brightness of 4,500 nits. The phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Ultimate 5G chipset, paired with Tecno’s P1 graphic chip, and comes with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It also carries a 6,500mAh battery with 45W charging, 10W reverse charging, a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilisation, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 13-megapixel front camera.
Tecno also says the handset runs HiOS 16 based on Android 16 and includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, an under-display fingerprint reader and infrared remote control support. The company lists IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance, which would place the device among the more robust phones in its class if those claims are borne out in retail units. YugaTech reported that the model has now been officially unveiled, while Tecno’s own materials present it as a more refined sibling to the standard Pova 8 5G.
That comparison matters because the wider Pova 8 family appears to be split by priorities. Gizmochina, Android Central, 91Mobiles and Gadgets 360 all describe the standard Pova 8 5G as a larger-battery device with an 8,000mAh cell, a Dimensity 7100 5G chip and the same rear lighting concept. By contrast, the Pro model appears to trade some battery capacity for a more premium AMOLED panel, a faster chipset and stronger overall specifications. For buyers, the appeal will depend on whether they value maximum endurance or a more balanced package with a distinctive design cue. The rear light system may help the phone stand out, but the decisive factors will still be display quality, thermal performance, software polish and camera results once independent reviews arrive.
