Tecno’s POVA 8 5G reintroduces a massive 8,000mAh battery and introduces support for eSIM in a segment still wary of the technology, aiming to appeal to youth with playful design and software features.
TECNO’s POVA line has long traded on one simple idea: a large battery at a relatively low price. The latest POVA 8 5G returns to that formula with an 8,000mAh cell, after the smaller battery in the previous generation left the series looking less distinctive. TECNO also pushes the model as a youth-oriented device, pairing the big battery with translucent styling, a small rear LED panel and a design language that is meant to feel more playful than functional.
The most notable change is support for eSIM, which TECNO places in a segment where it is still uncommon. That makes the POVA 8 5G stand out against similarly priced rivals. The phone also moves to a Sony LYT-600 main camera sensor, replacing the more modest unit used before. TECNO’s official specification sheet lists the Dimensity 7100 5G chip, HiOS 16 based on Android 16, a 6.76-inch 144Hz display, and 45W charging.
The hardware itself is broad rather than premium. TECNO gives the phone a plastic frame and rear panel, IP64 protection, an infrared blaster and a side-mounted fingerprint reader built into the power key. Reviewers have also noted the 117-pixel rear matrix display, which can show notifications, music cues, charging states and simple custom graphics. That secondary panel is not essential, but it does give the handset a clearer identity than many budget 5G phones.
Battery life is the other major selling point. TECNO says the 8,000mAh cell is designed for long endurance, while third-party reviews have described the phone as easily lasting well beyond a single working day, with some users seeing close to two days in mixed use. The bundle includes a 45W charger, and the software adds battery bypass charging, a charge cap and reverse wired charging. That mix is aimed at buyers who want longevity first and fastest-in-class charging second.
TECNO is also leaning heavily on software. The company says the phone includes its Ella assistant and a wide range of AI tools, from search and note-taking helpers to image editing and document scanning. It also advertises cloud storage for account holders. On paper, that is a more ambitious package than many budget phones offer, and it suggests TECNO is trying to turn POVA 8 5G into more than just a long-lasting handset.
