Tecno unveils the Pova 8 Pro 5G, featuring a high-refresh AMOLED screen, a secondary rear display, and a gaming-focused chipset designed for enhanced performance and connectivity, signalling a new direction in mid-range smartphones.
Tecno has unveiled the Pova 8 Pro 5G, extending its Pova 8 range with a model built around a high-refresh AMOLED panel, a gaming-focused chipset and an unusually prominent rear display. According to Tecno’s specification sheet, the handset centres on a 6.78-inch HyperLux AMOLED screen with 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, while MediaTek says the Dimensity 7400 family uses a 4nm octa-core design aimed at gaming efficiency and better connectivity.
The most distinctive element is the secondary dot-matrix display integrated into the rear camera area. Tecno says the so-called Alive Matrix display can show the time, date, notifications and custom visual effects. The company describes the device’s styling as an “Interstellar Spaceship” theme, and lists dimensions of 162.48 x 77.27 x 7.39mm, with a weight of 189 grams. It will be sold in Arc White, Graphite Black and Tundra Green.
Tecno pairs the Dimensity 7400 Ultimate 5G chipset with its own P1 graphics chip. The company claims that combination enables supported titles to run at up to 144 frames per second, with RPG games reaching up to 90fps and some FPS and MOBA games also able to hit 144fps. Tecno says the phone can score more than 1 million points on AnTuTu, although benchmark claims depend on testing conditions and software versions. HiOS 16, based on Android 16, is installed, and Tecno promises two major Android upgrades and three years of security support.
The Pova 8 Pro 5G is also positioned as a large-battery device. Tecno lists a 6,500mAh cell with 45W wired charging, 10W reverse wired charging and bypass charging for gaming sessions. The company says the battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 2,000 charge cycles under laboratory conditions. Other features include a 5,000-square-millimetre vapour chamber, stereo speakers tuned for Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio support, 4D gaming vibration, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and an in-display fingerprint reader.
On cameras, Tecno says the rear setup uses a 50-megapixel main sensor from Sony’s LYTIA 700C family with optical image stabilisation, alongside an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. A 13-megapixel front camera handles selfies and video calls. Storage configurations run to 512GB, with RAM options of 8GB and 12GB, plus extended RAM support that Tecno says can raise the total to 24GB. Pricing has not been announced.
