Tecno has unveiled the POVA 8 Pro 5G, featuring an innovative Alive Matrix Mini LED display, a spacecraft-inspired design, and advanced gaming capabilities, signalling a new era for mid-range smartphones.
TECNO has expanded its POVA 8 line with the POVA 8 Pro 5G, a top-end model that pairs a high-refresh display and large battery with an unusually elaborate rear design. The phone’s most distinctive feature is the Alive Matrix Display, a Mini LED panel integrated into the camera housing that TECNO says can animate notifications, call alerts and gaming effects across 49 scenarios.
The design is described by TECNO as “Interstellar Spaceship Design”, with a triangular rear section intended to resemble a spacecraft motif. The company also adds a customisable button on the right-hand side, allowing users to launch apps or actions with a single press. On the front, the phone uses a 6.78-inch HyperLux AMOLED panel with a 1,208 x 2,644 resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 4,500 nits of brightness, while support for wet and oily touch input is aimed at improving usability in less controlled conditions.
Inside, the POVA 8 Pro 5G is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chip, with configurations of up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. TECNO also highlights a P1 graphics chip, which it says can help push supported games to 144 frames per second through frame interpolation. The camera set-up includes a 50MP main sensor using Sony’s LYTIA 700C module with optical image stabilisation, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 13MP front camera.
Battery life is another clear priority. TECNO has fitted a 6,500mAh battery with 45W charging, bypass charging and 10W reverse wired charging. The phone runs HiOS 16 based on Android 16, with TECNO promising two Android version upgrades and three years of security patches. Other specifications include an in-display fingerprint reader, vapour chamber cooling, NFC, an IR blaster, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and durability ratings of IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K. The handset will come in Arc White, Graphite Black and Tundra Green, while TECNO has not yet disclosed pricing. Sales in India are scheduled to begin on 18 August.
