Vivo has reintroduced its S series in India with the launch of the S2, a mid-range smartphone boasting a large 6.83-inch AMOLED display, a 7,050mAh battery, advanced AI tools, and high-end camera features, targeting consumers seeking a blend of design, performance, and durability.
Vivo has brought back its S series to India with the launch of the S2, a mid-range phone the company says is built around design, battery life, cameras and a growing set of AI tools. The device arrives after weeks of teasers, certification filings and online leaks that pointed to a premium-positioned handset aimed at buyers looking for a large screen and long endurance.
The S2 is built around a 6.83-inch curved AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Vivo says the panel can reach 3,000 nits of local peak brightness and uses 4,320Hz PWM dimming to help reduce flicker at lower brightness levels. Earlier leaks had pointed to a slightly smaller display, but the final launch specification leans larger and more in line with Vivo’s upper mid-range playbook.
Power comes from MediaTek’s Dimensity 7360 Turbo chip, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Vivo says the phone can score as high as 970,000 on AnTuTu, though that figure is the company’s own claim. To keep temperatures under control, the S2 includes a large vapour chamber cooling system. It runs OriginOS 6 based on Android 16 and adds features such as Circle to Search, Google Gemini support, AI writing tools, real-time transcription and translation, and cross-device functions through Vivo Office Kit.
Camera hardware includes a 50-megapixel Sony main sensor with a 2-megapixel depth sensor at the rear and a 32-megapixel front camera. Vivo says both front and rear cameras can record 4K video, which is still uncommon in this price band. The phone also offers dual-view video, a range of shooting modes and an in-display fingerprint sensor, along with an IR blaster, stereo speakers and connectivity that includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4.
The battery is one of the S2’s headline features: a 7,050mAh cell paired with 44W charging. Vivo also says the handset has IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance and meets military-grade durability standards. It measures 7.99mm thick, weighs about 197 grams and comes in Silk White, Sapphire Blue and Regal Bronze. Pricing in India starts at ₹39,999 for the 8GB/128GB model and rises to ₹49,999 for the 8GB/256GB version, with sales set to begin on August 11 through Vivo’s own store, major e-commerce platforms and offline retailers. Launch offers include bank cashback, exchange bonuses, no-cost EMI and bundled Jio benefits. Earlier reporting had suggested a price band closer to ₹45,000 to ₹50,000, but Vivo’s launch pricing comes in slightly lower than that range.
