Vivo is set to resurrect its S-series in India on August 6, unveiling the S2 featuring a 7,050mAh battery, premium design, and advanced camera hardware, aiming to compete in the country’s fiercely competitive mid-range market.
Vivo is preparing to bring its S-series back to India on August 6, ending a gap of nearly seven years for the line in one of the world’s most competitive smartphone markets. According to Smartprix and several launch teasers, the S2 is set to be unveiled at midday India Standard Time, with the company already confirming several of its key specifications while leaving pricing and sale dates under wraps.
The handset is being positioned as a premium-looking mid-range device rather than a conventional value model. Gizmochina and 91mobiles both reported that vivo’s teasers and Amazon microsite point to a curved, polished design with a dual-camera housing and slim bezels, while early leak images showed a more restrained rear layout with multiple circular camera elements. That mixed picture suggests vivo is still refining how it wants the phone to be presented, but the overall emphasis is clearly on a more upmarket finish.
The headline feature is the battery. Vivo says the S2 will carry a 7,050mAh cell, a capacity that stands well above the 5,000mAh batteries still common in mainstream smartphones. The company is also pairing it with MediaTek’s Dimensity 7360 Turbo chip, a curved 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness rating of up to 3,000 nits. The display has also been marketed with certifications aimed at reducing blue light and improving visibility in strong sunlight.
Camera hardware is another major part of the pitch. Vivo has confirmed a 50MP Sony IMX852 rear sensor and a 32MP front camera, with both expected to support 4K video recording. That focus fits the S-series’ traditional emphasis on imaging and design rather than raw performance alone. Previous coverage from other outlets had suggested slightly different specifications, including smaller display and battery figures, which points to the usual noise around pre-launch leaks. Vivo’s own disclosures now appear to be the more reliable guide.
The unresolved question is price. Smartprix has estimated a range of about ₹40,000 to ₹45,000, while other reports have placed the phone somewhat higher. If vivo stays near the lower end of that band, the S2 could appeal to buyers who want endurance, display quality and a polished design without moving into full flagship territory. If the price climbs too far, it will face tougher comparisons with more aggressively specified rivals from OnePlus, Samsung, Xiaomi and vivo itself.
