Xiaomi introduces the Redmi 17 5G in China, highlighting a massive 6,300mAh battery, a large 6.9-inch display, and basic 5G connectivity targeted at everyday users, with a competitive price point and moderate camera specifications.
Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi 17 5G in China, adding another entry to its budget line-up with a strong emphasis on endurance, a large display and basic 5G connectivity. The phone is pitched at everyday users rather than performance buyers, and it runs Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS 3 software, which is based on Android 16, according to Spanish technology site Cinco Días.
The device uses a 6.9-inch HD+ LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling and DC dimming. Xiaomi says the screen can reach 800 nits of global peak brightness and carries TÜV Rheinland eye-protection certification, while Wet Touch 2.0 is designed to keep the display responsive when damp. The phone measures 171.56 x 79.47 x 8.15mm and weighs 210 grams, with colour options listed as Cold Mist Blue, Star Rock Black and Feather Mist White.
Inside, Xiaomi has chosen the 2.2GHz, 6nm Unisoc T8300 chipset, paired with 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, plus a dedicated microSD slot. That combination differs from pre-launch leaks cited by Cinco Días, which had suggested a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor, a 50MP main camera and a slightly different design language. The official launch instead confirms a more modest 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera, alongside a side-mounted fingerprint reader, USB-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack.
Battery life is the headline feature. Xiaomi has fitted a 6,300mAh cell and says it is engineered to retain health over four years of use. Charging is limited to 15W wired, with 7.5W reverse charging also supported, while the phone accepts PD and QC charging protocols. Cinco Días reported pricing in China at 999 yuan for the 4GB/128GB model and 1,199 yuan for the 6GB/128GB version, and a wider release is expected later.
