Xiaomi introduces the REDMI 17 and REDMI 17 5G models, targeting budget-conscious buyers with large displays, substantial batteries, and modest pricing, while offering upgraded features in the 5G variant.
Xiaomi has formally introduced the REDMI 17 and REDMI 17 5G, extending a line-up that appears aimed at buyers who want large displays, very big batteries and modest pricing rather than premium specifications. The launch details suggest the two phones share much of their core design, while the 5G version brings a newer chipset and faster storage.
The standard REDMI 17 uses MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra platform, a 6.9-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 7,500mAh battery with 45W charging. It is offered with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, plus microSD support of up to 2TB. Xiaomi also lists a 50-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, a side fingerprint sensor, NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IP64 rating.
The REDMI 17 5G keeps the same screen size and battery capacity but moves to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platform and UFS 2.2 storage, which should improve responsiveness in everyday use. It also adds 5G support while retaining NFC. Leaks published before the launch largely matched Xiaomi’s specifications, including the 6.9-inch panel, the 50-megapixel main camera and the 7,500mAh battery.
What remains unclear is regional availability. Xiaomi has not yet confirmed whether either model will reach the Philippines, even though Redmi’s number-series phones have regularly been sold there. Manila Shaker noted that the Redmi Note 15 5G is already listed locally at PHP 14,999, but there is still no price or release date for the REDMI 17 family in the market.
