Xiaomi expands its Redmi 17 lineup in Malaysia with both 4G and 5G models, featuring a 6.9-inch display, 50MP camera, and large 7,500mAh battery, signalling the brand’s growing focus on higher-end features in Southeast Asia.
Xiaomi has brought the Redmi 17 series to Malaysia, releasing both 4G and 5G versions as it widens the line beyond its earlier market debut. The move follows signs of an imminent launch in the country, with Malaysian certification records previously pointing to the handset’s arrival. The company is also expected to extend availability to the Philippines later, although no timetable has been confirmed.
The two models share most of their hardware. Both use a 6.9-inch IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HD+ resolution, a 7,500mAh battery, 45W wired charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging. Xiaomi has also fitted each version with a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, an RGB notification light on the rear, an IP64 rating, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a headphone jack.
Where they diverge is in the chipsets, memory and storage. The 4G model uses MediaTek’s Helio G91 with up to 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. The 5G version is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and uses UFS 2.2 storage, which means it can handle 4K video recording. In Malaysia, the Redmi 17 4G starts at MYR 669 for the 4GB/128GB version, while the 5G model starts at MYR 769 for the same memory and storage combination.
