Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi Note 17 5G in India, featuring a large 8,000mAh battery, a 120Hz AMOLED display, and a commitment to four years of OS updates, marking a significant upgrade for the country’s affordable 5G segment.
Xiaomi has started selling the Redmi Note 17 5G in India, positioning it as the first model in the new Note-series line-up. Gadgets 360 reported that the phone goes on sale from ₹27,999 for the 6GB plus 128GB version, while the 8GB model is priced at ₹30,999. Buyers can choose Arctic Blue, Dark Night or Starlight Purple, and select SBI, Axis Bank and Kotak credit card users can get an instant ₹3,000 discount through Amazon or Xiaomi’s online store.
The India variant is built around a 6.9-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 colour coverage, up to 1,800 nits peak brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. It uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chip, which also appears in the China launch version, although that model was described by Gadgets 360 as having a 7-inch Full-HD+ OLED panel. Xiaomi pairs the Indian handset with up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, plus microSD expansion of up to 2TB.
For imaging, the phone carries a 50-megapixel main rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture and an unspecified secondary sensor, along with an 8-megapixel front camera. That is slightly different from the Chinese version covered by TelecomTalk, which was listed with a 16-megapixel selfie camera and stronger dust and water resistance ratings. Xiaomi has also fitted a 10,416 sq mm vapour chamber cooling system and runs the handset on HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, with a promise of four years of OS updates and six years of security patches.
Battery life is one of the Redmi Note 17’s main selling points. The Indian model carries an 8,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging, and Xiaomi says it can last up to 2.5 days on a charge. Gadgets 360 said the handset measures 169.7mm by 79.14mm by 8.4mm, weighs about 225g and carries an IP65 rating. That makes the Indian version more conservative on charging and durability than the Chinese launch variant, which was reported with 67W charging and higher IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection.
