Xiaomi Malaysia launches Redmi A7 with large screen and long battery life at under RM500

Xiaomi Malaysia introduces the Redmi A7, a budget 4G smartphone featuring a near-7-inch display, long-lasting battery, and Android 15 Go Edition, targeting cost-conscious buyers from September 15.

Xiaomi Malaysia has expanded its entry-level line-up with the Redmi A7, a budget 4G smartphone that will go on sale from September 15. Official pricing is set at RM469 for a single version with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, placing it below the RM500 mark but above the Redmi A7 Pro, which offers more memory and a larger battery at a lower starting price. Xiaomi says the phone will be sold through its stores nationwide, mi.com and official shopfronts on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.

The Redmi A7 is built around a 6.88-inch LCD panel with HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and claimed typical brightness of 450 nits. It uses a Unisoc T7250 processor made on a 12nm process, paired with LPDDR4X memory and eMMC 5.1 storage. The phone also supports microSD expansion and Xiaomi’s memory extension feature, which can allocate storage space to simulate up to 6GB of RAM.

Camera hardware is modest. Xiaomi lists a single 13-megapixel rear camera, despite the dual-camera styling on the back, alongside an 8-megapixel front camera in a teardrop notch. The phone’s other hardware includes a 5,200mAh battery with 15W charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, AI face unlock, dual-band Wi-Fi and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It ships with Android 15 Go Edition, a lighter version of Android aimed at lower-cost devices.

Three colours will be offered in Malaysia: Black, Sky Blue and Orchid Purple. The Redmi A7’s specifications make clear that Xiaomi is targeting buyers who want a large screen and long battery life at a low cost, but the pricing also shows how tightly segmented the company’s budget range has become, with the A7 Pro offering stronger hardware for less money at launch.
