Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 17 5G in India, boasting an unprecedented 8,000mAh battery aimed at users prioritising endurance and large screens over camera prowess, with sales starting on 12 August.
Xiaomi has added a new large-battery model to its Redmi Note range in India, unveiling the Redmi Note 17 5G on 6 August with sales scheduled to begin on 12 August. The company is pitching the phone at buyers who want a bigger screen and longer endurance rather than a camera-led mid-range device, with pricing starting at Rs. 27,999. According to Xiaomi’s launch material, the handset is available in 6GB and 8GB RAM versions with 128GB of storage.
The Redmi Note 17 5G centres on a 6.99-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a claimed peak brightness of up to 1,800 nits. Xiaomi says the panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and the phone carries an IP65 rating for dust and splash resistance. The device is offered in Starlight Purple, Dark Night and Arctic Blue, continuing a design trend in the Note line towards large-format displays and simple, practical finishes.
Inside, the phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chip and runs Android 16 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 interface. The imaging hardware is modest by modern mid-range standards, with a 50MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. That puts the emphasis on everyday reliability rather than aggressive photography claims, which is in line with the broader Redmi Note strategy.
Battery life is the main selling point. Xiaomi says the Redmi Note 17 5G includes an 8,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging, a capacity that is notably higher than the 5,000mAh to 6,000mAh packs common in much of the segment. By comparison, Xiaomi’s separate Redmi 17 5G launch in China featured a different set of specifications, including a 6.9-inch LCD screen, a smaller 6,300mAh battery and a Unisoc processor, underlining that the Indian model is not a simple rebadge of the domestic Chinese version.
The phone is being sold in India through Xiaomi’s own website, Amazon India and retail outlets, with select bank card offers available at launch. Bajaj Finance is also promoting no-cost and low-cost EMI options through partner stores, including monthly payments starting from Rs. 830 on qualifying plans. For buyers focused on battery life, screen size and straightforward software, Xiaomi is making a clear case that the Redmi Note 17 5G is designed to be used less as a status device and more as a high-endurance workhorse.
