Several rivals now offer large-screen foldable phones with flagship features at lower prices, disrupting Samsung’s top position in the premium foldable market.
Foldable phones remain among the most costly smartphones, and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 sits near the top of that market. Yet buyers looking for a book-style foldable do not have to start with Samsung. Several rivals now combine large inner screens, flagship chipsets and high-end cameras at lower entry prices, giving shoppers more choice across design, battery life and software. According to Vanguard News, five models stand out for offering a more affordable route into premium folding phones. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is still the benchmark for the category, but it is no longer the only serious option.
Motorola’s Razr Fold is presented as one of the closest substitutes for Samsung’s format, with Motorola saying it has an 8.1-inch internal AMOLED display, a 6.6-inch outer screen, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor and up to 16GB of RAM. Motorola also lists a 6,000mAh battery, 80W wired charging and a triple 50MP rear camera array that includes a 3x telephoto lens. Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold, meanwhile, takes a different approach. Google positions it as a large-screen device built around Gemini AI and its cleaner version of Android, with an 8-inch inner display aimed at multitasking and media use.
HONOR’s Magic V5 is another direct challenger, and the company says it pairs a 7.95-inch internal OLED panel with a 6.43-inch cover screen, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 16GB of RAM and a 5,820mAh battery. HONOR also highlights a camera system built around a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens and a 64MP telephoto lens. Vanguard News notes that it also offers twice the base storage of Samsung’s 256GB variant at the same price point, which may matter to users who store large files locally and do not want to rely on cloud storage.
OnePlus Open remains relevant despite being an older model. OnePlus says it ships with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and a 4,805mAh battery with 67W fast charging. Its broad foldable display still makes it suitable for productivity, and its large storage allocation is a practical advantage for buyers who want a capable device without paying current flagship Fold prices. Even so, prospective buyers may need to check stock carefully, as availability and pricing can vary over time.
OPPO’s Find N5 rounds out the list as a thinner premium foldable that the company says measures 8.93mm when folded and 4.21mm when open. OPPO lists the Snapdragon 8 Elite, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and a 5,600mAh battery, alongside a 7.95-inch internal OLED display and a 6.43-inch external panel. In a market where foldables are often judged on price as much as on innovation, these alternatives show that Samsung is setting the pace, but not monopolising the segment.
